Dan Riccio, previously senior VP of engineering is stepping down to undertake a new project at Apple, the company reports.

Although the details regarding the project remain unclear, recent rumors claim that Apple is building an electric car or focusing on augmented and virtual reality. Seeing that these are just mere rumors, the project could be a different product such as a noise-canceling headphone or even another iPhone.

Every innovation Dan has helped Apple bring to life has made us a better and more innovative company, and we’re thrilled that he’ll continue to be part of the team. John’s deep expertise and wide breadth of experience make him a bold and visionary leader of our Hardware Engineering teams. I want to congratulate them both on these exciting new steps, and I’m looking forward to many more innovations they’ll help bring to the world
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO

Before taking the position of the senior vice president of engineering, Riccio led the iPad team and oversaw major projects including the newly-launched AirPods Max.

John Ternus will replace Riccio on the companies’ executive team. Since 2013, John has served Apple as the VP of hardware engineering. He is among the key persons in the rollout of Apple’s new MI CPUs. Riccio will, however, still hold the VP of engineering title. He will play a huge role in revolutionizing the future of the companies’ products.

We’ve reported that Apple has plans to assemble an electric passenger vehicle. The ‘Project Titan’ will use automated vehicle technology and breakthrough battery technology by 2024. The venture, however, reduced the team by 200 employees.
