Personal data of about 50,000 Revolut customers got exposed due to the cyber attack
Revolut notified that a cyber attack compromised the data of over 50,000 bank customers, stating that access to its database was obtained through social engineering methods. The hackers who infiltrated the firm’s systems last Sunday were already identified and locked out.
Nevertheless, names, addresses, e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, part of the payment card data and account details of the customers were stolen from Revolut servers. Although all card data was hashed and no PINs or passwords were accessed, the affected clients should be vigilant.
Revolut warns about an increased risk of fraud and recommends customers be especially attentive to suspicious emails, phone calls or messages. The startup urged that it will not call or send SMS messages asking for login data or access codes. If any of such requests appear, that would mean you’re targeted by a phishing campaign.
As a precaution, Revolut has formed a dedicated team to monitor customer accounts and make sure that both money and data are safe.
