According to Ecommerce News, Amazon and eBay are leading the UK e-commerce market. In 2019, both of them have a 39.9% market share in the United Kingdom. As to Amazon, it’s way ahead of all other online retailers with an increase to 30.1% compared to last year.

Edge by Ascential’s insights reveals that the next biggest player is eBay with a 9.8% share of the online market. It’s followed by Sainsbury’s (4.6%), Tesco (4.5%), Walmart/Asda (3.9%) and John Lewis (3.6%).

The e-commerce share of chain retail will continue to increase in the United Kingdom, expanding from 21% this year to 26% in 2024.

This is all the more crucial as pure-play online platforms such as Amazon and eBay continue to expand and dominate in the UK market, driving third party operations that give greater control to brands selling on the platform but open up fierce competition and require care and attention from those selling in the marketplace
