Walmart signed a deal with Paramount Global to offer video-streaming services to subscribers of its membership program. The Paramount+ Essential Plan will be available to Walmart+ members in September. The price of the membership plan won’t change.

“We know Walmart+ is providing members real value in their every day – from grocery shopping to filling up their tank and more. With the addition of Paramount+, we are demonstrating our unique ability to help members save even more and live better by delivering entertainment for less, too.”
Chris Cracchiolo,
senior vice president and general manager of Walmart+

This deal would make Walmart competitive in the market where a growing number of retailers create hubs to sell streaming video services. Walmart executives have also held talks to discuss a streaming deal with executives at Walt Disney and Comcast.

Besides, it’s a logical continuation of the years-long partnership between Walmart and Paramount. The latter has even had an office in Bentonville, Ark., dedicated to Walmart, which historically has been a big seller of its consumer products and home entertainment.

Walmart+ was introduced in 2020. The program aims to add the retailer new streams of revenue beyond selling goods, as well as rival the success Amazon has had with its Prime membership services. A subscription to Walmart+ includes free shipping on online orders and discounts on gasoline. The retailer has also added perks such as six months of the Spotify music-streaming service.
