Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has presented a series of new semiconductors for business laptops and AI-enabled desktops.
Currently, the mentioned firm is striving to expand its share in the market of personal computers with artificial intelligence, which is currently what can be called a profit-making space.
The new AMD chips are expected to be available on Lenovo and HP devices from the second quarter of the current year. The relevant information is contained in the manufacturer’s press release.
AI-enabled personal computers can run large language models and apps powered on advanced technology directly on the device, rather than in the cloud.
AMD said its newest Ryzen PRO 8040 series was designed for business laptops and mobile workstations. At the same time, the AMD Ryzen PRO 8000 series was intended for desktop processors for business users.
After the new chips were presented, the share price of their manufacturer showed an increase of more than 2%.
Some experts say that AI-enabled personal computers can become the driving force behind the process of restoring the market for relevant devices. This point of view is based on the fact that consumers are currently seeking to expand the capabilities of their computers by using artificial intelligence. AI is gradually transforming into what can be described as the main element of the modern configuration of technological reality.
Digital thinking systems are on the trajectory of transformation into autonomous structures of perception of the world, capable of analyzing external information and making independent complex conclusions based on these data about the processes and phenomena occurring in the space of objective being. Artificial intelligence is a source of new opportunities for mankind, which is likely to contribute to the movement of human civilization toward progress.
Currently, a so-called AI boom is observed. This tendency is evidence that an understanding of the significant capabilities of advanced technology has been formed in the public consciousness. Against the background of the AI boom, there was a high level of consumer demand for semiconductors necessary for the development, training, and subsequent operation of artificial intelligence systems.
AMD is facing fierce competition from Intel in the AI-enabled personal computer market. The company also competes with Nvidia, the leader in the production of graphics processor units (GPUs). However, in this case, a more correct formulation would be that AMD is striving to get closer to the position of an industry leader.
In January, AMD presented a series of Ryzen 8000G desktop chips designed to operate with heavy workloads that arise when performing tasks based on artificial intelligence. At that time, Nvidia also introduced its own chips for personal computers with artificial intelligence. In this case, GeForce RTX SUPER desktop GPUs are meant. Nvidia said that Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung will release laptops with artificial intelligence equipped with the mentioned technology.
In January, Intel also announced its intention to ship about 40 million computers with artificial intelligence to the market in 2024.
It is worth noting that in the emerging era of AI, the issue of cybersecurity and compliance with the rules of careful behavior in the virtual space, which will allow users not to become victims of scammers and manipulators, is becoming particularly important. In this context, what matters is what can be called personal awareness. For example, a query in an Internet search engine, such as How to know if my camera is hacked, will allow anyone to get information about signs of unauthorized access to the device. In an era when information is becoming a kind of matter of being, it is extremely important to follow the rules of digital security. In this case, it should be noted that crime is moving into the expanding space of digital reality and is adapting to a new form of existence.
Also, in the age of AI, special attention should be paid to the reliability of information. Artificial intelligence can be used to generate fake content that has signs of maximum realism. For example, OpenAI has developed the Voice Engine feature. This function can simulate human speech. The company has not launched the process of mass use of this development, noting significant security risks.
At the same time, it is worth noting that the potential danger associated with artificial intelligence does not negate its enormous potential, which can become the foundation for positive large-scale development. Elon Musk suggests that AI can become a force for good. Last year, at the AI Safety Summit in the United Kingdom, the billionaire said it was likely that artificial intelligence would be the foundation for the beginning of an era of abundance.
