The media reported that Apple will take an observer position on the board of directors of OpenAI.
It is worth noting that the developer of the world’s most popular chatbot based on artificial intelligence called ChatGPT is the new partner of the iPhone developer in the AI industry. The media reports that the new position came as part of a deal concluded last month between two technology companies. This deal provides for the integration of ChatGPT into Apple products.
Phil Schiller, the head of Apple’s App Store and a longtime member of its executive team, will represent the company as an observer on OpenAI’s board of directors at the end of the current year. The relevant information was published by the media with reference to insiders who are aware of the specifics of the interaction between the two technology companies.
According to preliminary data, Phil Schiller will be able to attend meetings of the board of directors, but not vote for the company’s decisions. In recent months, the company’s board of directors has been reshuffled, following the sudden dismissal and re-hiring of OpenAI founder and CEO Sam Altman last November.
Apple and OpenAI have been discussing a partnership for several months. Last month, the iPhone developer officially announced the collaboration between the two companies. Also in June, Apple presented plans for its artificial intelligence project.
The iPhone developer intends to integrate OpenAI ChatGPT 4o into its iOS, macOS, and iPadOS operating systems.
It is worth noting that in many business sectors, a kind of dilemma is very often formed, which consists of deciding whether to develop its own functional solution, buy a finished product, or enter into a partnership to integrate new technologies. Recently, interaction with third-party suppliers has become an increasingly common practice. For example, Microsoft is also actively cooperating with OpenAI. The tech giant has invested $13 billion in ChatGPT’s developer.
