Intel Unveils Latest AI Chip

Intel on Tuesday, April 9, presented its newest artificial intelligence chip called Gaudi 3.

Intel Unveils Latest AI Chip

As part of the presentation of the mentioned new product, the company paid attention to its competitiveness. Intel claims that Gaudi 3 has a power efficiency level that is twice as high as that of Nvidia chips. It was also underlined that Intel’s new product can run artificial intelligence models one and a half times faster than the microcircuits of the specified competitor. It is worth noting that to some extent the persistent comparison of Gaudi 3 with Nvidia chips is logical and, in a certain sense, natural, since this company currently has an unspoken, but obviously objective status as a leader in the advanced microcircuits sector.

Intel has tested Gaudi 3 on artificial intelligence models like Llama open source and backed by Abu Dhabi Falcon. The company claims that its new chip can be used to train and deploy machine intelligence configurations, including Stable Diffusion or OpenAI’s Whisper speech recognition system.

Intel said Gaudi 3 will be available to customers in the third quarter of the current year. The company has not yet released information about the cost of the new chip.

Das Kamhout, Intel’s vice president for Xeon Software, during a conversation with media representatives, said he expected Gaudi 3 to have a high level of competitiveness. In the list of advantages of the new product, the company employee mentioned such characteristics and features as low prices, a distinctive open integrated network on a chip, and the use of the industrial Ethernet standard.

Currently, there are widespread expectations in the expert community that the market for artificial intelligence microcircuits for data centers will expand as cloud providers and companies build infrastructure for deploying AI software.

Machine intelligence is characterized by many analysts and futurologists as the main driving force of progress at the current stage of human civilization development. Technological optimists expect artificial intelligence to improve the quality of human life in terms of functionality. At the same time, the active use of AI is associated with certain risks. For example, artificial intelligence can be a tool for generating fake content to perform manipulations in the information environment and influence public consciousness. Scammers also have access to AI. Technology companies are developing tools to counter the destructive use of artificial intelligence, but in this case, user awareness is also very important. For example, a query in an Internet search system, such as How do I know if my phone camera is hacked, will allow anyone to get information about signs of unauthorized access to a personal device. Like any large-scale technology, AI can be used for both good and harm. However, this does not mean that artificial intelligence is a source of destruction since the scenario of its application depends on a person’s decision.
