Klarna AI-Powered Shopping Search is Now Directly Embedded in ChatGPT

Flexible payments provider Klarna facilitates e-commerce shopping experience for ChatGPT users, who can now instantly see visual search results with up-to-date prices, availability, and offers from multiple merchants, all within the same conversation with the chatbot.

Klarna AI-Powered Shopping Search is Now Directly Embedded in ChatGPT

Klarna has added its Klarna Shopping Search app to the ChatGPT experience, enabling the popular chatbot users to access live commerce data of more than 100 million products and 400 million merchant listings across 13 markets within the same chat interface they are using for queries.

Until now, consumers using AI for online shopping assistance often had to open multiple browser tabs, compare different websites, and deal with outdated pricing information. With the Klarna Shopping Search app in ChatGPT, AI search users can simply describe the product they want and receive visual results showing current prices, availability, and offers from different merchants directly within the conversation thread. As there’s no direct checkout option in ChatGPT though, users are then redirected to the merchant’s website to complete the purchase.

AI use in e-commerce shopping experiences is peaking in 2026. A study by Adobe has recently shown that traffic from AI platforms to retail sites skyrocketed by nearly 700% during the latest holiday season. Furthermore, AI-assisted online shoppers converted their product discovery into real purchases at 31% higher rates. Another recent research by PSE Consulting confirmed that 43% of consumers across the UK, US, France and Germany have had positive impressions after AI-driven e-commerce discovery. At the same time, 86% of respondents check the recommendations given by AI for brand credibility and customer review criteria, and prefer to get the final say in purchase decision-making. Meanwhile, prise comparison remains one of the most popular AI tools for online shopping, as more than third of customers believe it to be the defining “buy” factor.

With Klarna integration into ChatGPT search, the online shopping scenario fits exactly into the customer preference paradigm. All the discovery and comparison happens within chatbot, while purchase itself is redirected to the brand’s website where users can check the necessary credentials and reviews before fulfilling the purchase. That significantly simplifies and speeds up search, simultaneously leaving some room for detailed product checkup.

“ChatGPT is where millions of people already turn when they’re figuring out what they want. We’re plugging our merchant network directly into that moment. A consumer who last week would have spent twenty minutes comparing tabs now gets a real answer in one conversation, creating a more seamless experience from idea to purchase.”

David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer at Klarna

The new tool is now available via the “Apps” button in the ChatGPT sidebar. Users are advised to search for “Klarna Shopping Search.” If they haven’t used the app before, they’ll need to “Connect” to it by following the interface prompts. Those who have already connected, should select “Start chat,” and describe what they’re looking for to browse real-time product results directly within the conversation. On the tech side, Klarna’s Product Search MCP server is responsible for powering the novel shopping experience.

The move is the latest in a series of Klarna’s efforts to boost presence in e-commerce search and checkout now driven by AI. Earlier this month, both Klarna and one of its competitors, Affirm, had their BNPL options embedded into Google’s Gemini app and Google search as part of Google Pay AI Mode checkout.
