French fintech company Lydia and artificial intelligence provider Mistral AI have established a partnership to incorporate advanced generative AI capabilities into Lydia’s payments and document processing workflows. The collaboration brings together Lydia’s digital financial services platform and Mistral AI’s OCR 3 and language processing models to automate extraction of payment data from a variety of formats.

Under the agreement, Lydia will integrate Mistral AI’s models to enable users to initiate payments directly from photos, documents and screenshots that contain relevant financial information such as invoices, bank details and payment references. The AI models extract and interpret key fields such as amounts, beneficiary names, International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs) and reference codes, which are then presented to users for validation before finalizing the transaction.
The integration is particularly relevant for Lydia’s newly launched banking brand, Sumeria, which offers full banking services including current accounts with IBANs, debit cards, savings and other financial products. While the original Lydia app continues to focus on payments and peer-to-peer transfers, Sumeria serves as the dedicated platform for more complex banking operations. The AI-driven document processing and payment automation provided by Mistral AI will support users across both Lydia and Sumeria services.
Lydia’s platform, which offers peer-to-peer transfers, money management tools and payment services via mobile applications, will leverage this AI-assisted capture to reduce manual data entry and streamline routine financial tasks for its users. The integration aims to improve both speed and accuracy of operations that currently require users to manually input transaction details.
By automating extraction of financial data from physical and digital documents, Lydia anticipates both a reduction in friction for users and a reduction in errors associated with manual entry of payment information. This in turn can decrease time to complete transactions and support higher throughput without proportionally increasing support or development resources.
Mistral AI, a Paris-based generative AI company founded in 2023 with a portfolio of large language models and specialized tools including OCR 3 for optical character recognition, supplies the underlying AI technology for this initiative. Mistral’s models are designed to handle text extraction and contextual understanding across a variety of structured and unstructured sources. As of 2025 the company has a broad suite of models spanning language understanding, image processing and reasoning tasks.
Mistral AI’s participation in the fintech space through this partnership illustrates growing adoption of generative AI in financial applications beyond traditional conversational tools, with a focus on specialized tasks such as document interpretation and automated data extraction. Mistral’s models are also deployed in other enterprise partnerships involving cloud services, banking workflows, and retail innovation, demonstrating the broad applicability of its AI solutions across sectors.
