OpenAI chief technology officer Mira Murati is leaving this startup, which is the latest high-profile departure from the company that developed the world’s most popular chatbot called ChatGPT.
Mira Murati stated that her decision is related to the desire to create time and space for her exploration. The corresponding statement is contained in a publication that she posted on the social media platform X. Mira Murati also noted that she will work to ensure a smooth transition.
It’s worth noting that Mira Murati is a central figure in a startup that is one of the main players in the global artificial intelligence sector. She was interim CEO after OpenAI chief executive officer Sam Altman was briefly ousted last November.
Sam Altman on the above-mentioned social media platform thanked Mira Murati. In this context, he noted that it’s hard to overstate how much she has meant to OpenAI and the mission of the startup. Sam Altman also stated that he would share more with employees about transition plans shortly.
Mira Murati has played an important role in the shepherding of the main products of startups. In this case, it means, among other things, ChatGPT, image generation software called DALL-E, and advanced voice mode, in which users can talk with a chatbot in essentially real-time.
It is worth mentioning that Ilya Sutskever, the startup’s chief scientist, left in May. In August, OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman announced he was going on leave by the end of the year. Also last month, researcher John Schulman left the startup and joined the team of Anthropic, a competitor to OpenAI.
