Natural Secures $30M to Build AI Agent Payments Infrastructure

AI agent payments infrastructure is rapidly becoming one of fintech’s fastest-growing segments, with startups and global payment networks racing to build financial rails for autonomous AI. Natural’s latest funding round suggests investors believe AI agents will soon become independent economic participants, propelling beyond simple productivity tools.

Natural Secures $30M to Build AI Agent Payments Infrastructure

US fintech startup Natural has raised $30 million in Series A funding to accelerate development of a payments infrastructure built specifically for AI agents. The round highlights growing investor confidence that autonomous software will increasingly initiate, receive and manage financial transactions without direct human intervention. Led by Forerunner, this funding batch brings the company’s total received investments to more than $40 million less than a year after its launch.

Unlike conventional payment providers that are adding AI-powered features to existing platforms, Natural is designing an end-to-end financial stack where AI agents themselves become the primary users of payment services. They are holding funds, requesting payments, issuing invoices, making purchases, transferring money and eventually accessing credit.

That distinction is becoming increasingly important as businesses begin deploying autonomous AI agents capable of completing entire workflows rather than simply generating recommendations. If those agents are expected to negotiate contracts, order supplies or pay vendors, they require payment infrastructure designed around machine identity, permissions, compliance and auditability rather than traditional consumer authentication.

“Agents are going to become one of the most, if not the most, important financial actors in the global economy. The question is not whether agents will move money. The question is who builds the infrastructure that makes agentic payments safe, reliable, compliant, and useful at scale. That is what we are building at Natural.”

Kahlil Lalji, CEO and Co-founder of Natural

Natural says six products for the autonomous payment stack are already generally available. These include agent wallets, payment requests, transfers, account management and marketplace connectivity. Additional products planned over the coming months range between payment acceptance, agent-issued cards, voice payment capabilities and eventually credit lines and direct payment-rail access for AI systems.

Coming just several weeks after Visa performed a live, end-to-end agentic payment transaction with ING in Germany and several weeks after it expanded its Agentic Ready program globally to support AI-powered commerce, Natural’s financing demonstrates that an entire category of infrastructure providers is emerging around autonomous transactions. Rather than relying solely on existing card networks, these companies are building payment rails specifically optimized for software agents operating continuously across multiple financial systems. This signals that agentic payments are evolving from experimental AI features into a dedicated infrastructure market.

Industry attention is increasingly focused on questions traditional payment systems were never designed to answer. How does an AI agent prove its identity? Who authorizes its spending limits? How can every autonomous transaction remain transparent, reversible and compliant with financial regulations? Infrastructure providers like Natural are attempting to solve those problems before AI agents begin handling significant payment volumes.

According to the company, its platform integrates ledgering, money movement, multi-bank settlement, fraud prevention in the AI era, compliance controls and agent observability into a unified architecture purpose-built for machine-driven commerce rather than human users.

The rapid fundraising also reflects how quickly investor sentiment has shifted toward AI infrastructure. While much of the AI boom has centered on foundation models and enterprise assistants, financial infrastructure is emerging as another high-growth segment as autonomous agents become capable of completing increasingly complex commercial tasks. As payment networks, fintech startups and enterprise software providers simultaneously invest in agent-native capabilities, AI agent payments infrastructure is quickly evolving into one of the defining themes shaping the future of digital commerce.
