Nexi Introduces Single-Device Checkout System to Combine POS, Software and Payments

Nexi, a fintech company that operates across merchant acquiring, issuing and digital banking services in several European countries, has announced the release of Nexi SmartStation, an all-in-one commerce device designed to replace multiple in-store terminals with a single unit capable of running point-of-sale (POS) applications, store management software and payment acceptance.

The product targets merchants and software vendors that operate across fragmented hardware setups, where separate devices are often used for payments, POS and back-office functions. Nexi said combining these functions into one system may help simplify store layouts and reduce operational complexity.

SmartStation can be deployed in several formats, including fixed, countertop and mobile configurations. The system supports card payments, mobile NFC, QR codes, international and domestic card schemes, and alternative payment methods.

The device consists of a 15.6-inch merchant-facing Android 14 tablet and an 8-inch customer display. A detachable payment terminal allows transactions to take place away from the counter, which may suit sectors such as retail, hospitality and personal services.

According to Nexi, the platform is built on an API-based architecture intended to allow software partners to integrate their own POS and electronic cash register applications. The system also includes features such as offline payment capability through deferred authorization and support for EMV offline transactions, aimed at maintaining operations during connectivity disruptions. The company said the device meets bank-grade security requirements and is designed to accommodate future regulatory or payment updates.

SmartStation will be offered to Nexi’s partner software vendors as part of its Nexi Integrated portfolio. The company has presented the device to partners in the Nordic region and plans a phased rollout to additional European markets during 2026.
