OpenAI Rolls Out First Improvements to Data Analysis in ChatGPT

OpenAI, the creator of the ChatGPT chatbot, announced a round of updates to its popular product, including interactive tables and charts along with the ability to add files directly from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive into ChatGPT.

Data analysis improvements will be available in the firm’s new flagship model, GPT-4o, for ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise users over the coming weeks.

As the improvements roll out, users will be able to upload the latest file versions directly from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, interact with tables and charts in a new expandable view, and customize and download charts for presentations and documents.

The new GPT-4o model was presented on May 14. The new chatbot version should be faster and cheaper than the previous models. GPT-4o was trained based on vast amounts of data from the Internet. The company claims this digital product will better handle text materials, audio, and images in real time.

The newly introduced improvements build upon ChatGPT’s ability to understand datasets and complete tasks in natural language. Once a user uploads one or more data files, ChatGPT can analyze data by writing and running Python code on their behalf. The tool can handle various data tasks, like merging and cleaning large datasets, creating charts, and uncovering insights.

With the update, users can save some time on data analysis. Instead of downloading files to one’s desktop and then uploading them to ChatGPT, OpenAI customers can now add various file types directly from their Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive repositories.

Moreover, when you add a dataset, ChatGPT will create an interactive table expanded to a full-screen view that updates during your analysis. Users can click on specific areas to ask follow-up questions or choose from suggested prompts to make a more profound analysis.

Finally, presentation-ready charts can now be customised with changing chart elements, additional questions, or colour selection. These new interactive features cover many chart types like bar, line, pie, and scatter plot charts. Besides, ChatGPT will generate a static version for charts that aren’t supported.
