PayPal Expands Agentic Commerce Suite with Cymbio Acquisition

PayPal will enhance its agentic commerce services by acquiring commerce automation platform Cymbio, that would help the payment giant extend merchant reach across AI-driven shopping environments.

PayPal Expands Agentic Commerce Suite with Cymbio Acquisition

The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to customary conditions, and will bring Cymbio’s technology and team into PayPal’s existing infrastructure for AI commerce.

PayPal says the acquisition will help power its Store Sync service, which makes merchants’ product catalogues discoverable across AI channels while ensuring brands remain the merchant of record and retain customer relationships. Retailers already using Store Sync include Abercrombie & Fitch, Fabletics, Ashley Furniture, Newegg and Adorama on platforms like Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity.

The Cymbio technology is expected to accelerate PayPal’s agentic commerce offering — a suite of solutions that includes Agent Ready (an AI-ready payment solution) and Store Sync (catalog and order connection), enabling merchants to integrate once and become visible across multiple AI ecosystems. The services are built on PayPal’s payments infrastructure and support connections to partners such as Wix, Commerce (BigCommerce & Feedonomics) and Shopware.

Earlier phases of PayPal’s agentic commerce initiative included strategic partnerships that enabled functional use cases before the acquisition was announced. In May 2025, PayPal teamed up with AI search provider Perplexity to support AI-powered payments within the Perplexity Pro platform, allowing users in the U.S. to complete purchases with PayPal or Venmo after AI agents surface product listings, travel bookings or event tickets. This integration manages payment, shipping, tracking and invoicing with tokenised wallets and passkey checkout options.

By late 2025, PayPal and Perplexity further expanded this integration with an Instant Buy feature ahead of the holiday season, enabling U.S. users to browse merchant catalogues through the Perplexity interface and complete checkout within the same experience.

PayPal first made its agentic commerce services generally available in October 2025, introducing Agent Ready and Store Sync to help merchants connect product data, inventory and fulfilment systems with AI-driven discovery and checkout experiences. Merchant discoverability on Perplexity was expected before the end of 2025, with Agent Ready rolling out in early 2026.

The Cymbio acquisition further lays the groundwork for future integrations with additional AI services as the agentic commerce ecosystem continues to develop.
