PhotonPay Secures U.S. Money Transmitter License as Its Global Stablecoin Strategy Accelerates

PhotonPay has obtained a U.S. Money Transmitter License (MTL), a regulatory milestone that strengthens the company’s ability to provide regulated payments and payout services across North America and advances its broader strategy to build a stablecoin-centric digital financial infrastructure.

The license, part of a deliberate push to expand PhotonPay’s compliance footprint, enables the firm to offer money-transmission services in U.S. jurisdictions where it is now authorised to operate. Company statements and filings position the MTL as a critical enabler for enterprise products such as cross-border payouts, multi-currency accounts, embedded payments, and real-time settlement services that rely on regulated rails for trust and legal certainty.

The U.S. licensing milestone complements a recent Series B financing round that PhotonPay closed to scale its stablecoin-native clearing infrastructure. The company describes itself as building a next-generation, stablecoin-centric payments layer that combines digital-asset settlement with traditional banking plumbing — an architecture intended to deliver near-real-time, low-cost cross-border value movement and 24/7 liquidity for enterprise customers. On this occasion, PhotonPay has highlighted material throughput on its platform and said the funding will accelerate product development, compliance, and geographic expansion.

Alongside the U.S. licence and capital raise, PhotonPay has been deepening its local rails capabilities in key markets. In the UK, the company announced integration with ClearBank that provides customers with named GBP accounts and indirect access to Faster Payments, BACS and CHAPS, improving settlement speed, reconciliation, and domestic compliance for UK-based flows. Executives describe the UK rails build-out as a practical complement to stablecoin settlement, giving clients flexible routing between fiat rails and tokenised liquidity depending on cost, speed and regulatory needs.

The combination of U.S. licensing, strengthened local-rails access, and a stablecoin-first architecture positions PhotonPay as a hybrid infrastructure provider capable of bridging legacy banking systems with digital-asset rails. The company frames this approach as appealing to platforms and enterprises that need compliant, low-cost global settlement while retaining the option to settle domestically on regulated bank rails where required.

With the U.S. MTL now in place, PhotonPay said it will prioritise product rollouts for enterprise customers in the Americas while continuing to scale its infrastructure across Europe and Asia.

PhotonPay’s recent developments reflect broader trends in payments: regulated market entry, greater emphasis on stablecoin settlement for cross-border efficiency, and pragmatic layering of local rails to ensure compliance and commercial flexibility.
