Realme Plans 100 Million AI Handset Shipments in Coming Years

In China, the local smartphone manufacturer Realme intends to ship 100 million artificial intelligence devices over the next three years.

Realme Plans 100 Million AI Handset Shipments in Coming Years

The mentioned plans were announced by the chief executive officer of the company Sky Li. According to him, Realme is currently preparing to popularize artificial intelligence among young consumers amid the observed increase in competition at the global level. It is worth noting separately that AI is gradually becoming the main technology of modernity. It is highly likely that in the foreseeable future, functional solutions based on artificial intelligence will be integrated into the vast majority of everyday devices with which a person interacts.

During a conversation with representatives of the media, Sky Li said that the company he heads is reaching a level. As part of the realization of the corresponding aspiration, the brand will pay special attention to imaging. Also, personalization and efficiency will become priorities for the company in this case. As part of the current business strategy, including in the context of the market concept, Realme is focused on meeting the core needs of young users.

Sky Li said that 2024 will be the starting point for smartphones with artificial intelligence. Also in this context, he noted that machine intelligence is an opportunity for the smartphone industry to reshape the future and a platform for implementing disruptive innovations. Moreover, he said, for Realme, artificial intelligence is an opportunity that the firm should not miss. He also stated that machine intelligence is a new battlefield full of challenges.

Realme, based in Shenzhen, is a subsidiary of Oppo, founded by hardware giant BBK Electronics. The company, led by Sky Li, presented the flagship GT 6 device as part of its efforts in the area of artificial intelligence. The company also launched a machine intelligence lab called Realme Next.

Realme is currently developing artificial intelligence features. The company positions these functions as the main part of its offer to consumers. It is worth noting that many smartphone manufacturers are currently integrating artificial intelligence technologies into their devices. The list of features of the Realme 13 Pro includes a solution to improve the quality of low-resolution photos. This solution is designed to compensate for the lack of top-tier hardware.

Sky Li says that the company he heads strives to make artificial intelligence more accessible to young people by baking the latest technology into affordable devices. Also, according to him, machine intelligence continues to develop in the smartphone industry. In this context, he stated that pioneers would be needed to popularize these achievements. Moreover, Sky Li said that artificial intelligence features will initially be integrated into the flagship GT models, and then into more affordable devices.

It is worth noting that Realme’s approach in the artificial intelligence industry differs from similar concepts of larger domestic and global competitors. Major players such as Apple, Honor, and Xiaomi have developed their own large language models or integrated relevant third-party products into their devices. The mentioned models are a platform for digital systems such as OpenAI ChatGPT.

Apple, which plans to unveil its new iPhone 16 series next month, has entered into a partnership agreement with OpenAI, backed by Microsoft. The purpose of this agreement is to integrate GPT-powered generative artificial intelligence into Siri and other smartphone tools outside of China. Also, the collaboration between Apple and OpenAI is aimed at processing some computing using machine intelligence. The corresponding operations on the iPhone developer’s devices are performed using the company’s own large language model.

In June, Oppo announced that by the end of the current year, artificial intelligence features will be available to approximately 50 million smartphone users. Initially, the company intends to integrate the relevant functions into devices belonging to the premium category. Oppo then plans to extend AI technology to more affordable smartphones. Oppo’s competitors, including Vivo, Huawei Technologies, and Honor, also presented plans to introduce artificial intelligence into their devices and mobile operating systems.

The report, which was published in April by the consulting company Canalys, contained a forecast that China would become the world leader in the introduction of smartphones based on artificial intelligence. It is also expected that in 2024, devices of the corresponding segment will account for 12% of the total volume of smartphone shipments to the mainland. It is worth noting that the appropriate global average is around 9%.

Sky Li expects that the integration of artificial intelligence will allow the company to double the volume of sales of products in the domestic market by 2026.

Realme, originally incubated by Oppo in 2018 and spun out in 2019, is one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands in the world. In foreign markets, the company focuses on young consumers. In November, Realme announced that it has shipped more than 200 million smartphones since its establishment. It was also noted that most of these products were sold outside of China. It is worth noting that the supply of more than 200 million smartphones in such a period is an achievement that is not available to most manufacturers of the corresponding products.

Currently, the main market for Realme outside of China is Europe. In the first quarter of 2024, the company took fourth place in the ranking of popularity of smartphone brands in this region. The firm’s share in the European smartphone market is 4%. In the coming years, Realme intends to strengthen its position in the mentioned region market.
