SNICKERS Launches Digital Candy Bar Designed For ‘Hungry’ AI

SNICKERS has launched a digital candy bar designed specifically for artificial intelligence, extending its long-running “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” campaign into the era of generative AI.

SNICKERS Launches Digital Candy Bar Designed For ‘Hungry’ AI

The new SNICKERS Hungr.AI campaign, launched by Mars on August 31, uses the familiar idea of hunger to explain some of the unusual behaviour users encounter when interacting with AI assistants. These can include incorrect information, overly agreeable responses, or answers that do not adequately address a question. In AI terminology, some inaccurate or fabricated outputs are commonly referred to as “hallucinations.”

Rather than presenting these behaviours as a technical problem, SNICKERS turns them into a marketing concept: perhaps the AI is simply “hungry”.

How the digital SNICKERS works

Hungr.AI is not a physical product or a new AI model. Instead, it is a branded prompt that users can copy from the SNICKERS website and paste into a ChatGPT conversation.

According to SNICKERS, users should first ask their AI assistant a question and assess its response. If the answer appears incorrect, too flattering or otherwise unsatisfactory, they can visit the Hungr.AI website, copy the digital SNICKERS and paste it into the same ChatGPT conversation. The brand says this is intended to encourage a cleaner and more satisfying response.

One must understand that “feeding” AI is mostly just a fun marketing experience. It does not change the underlying AI model or provide the chatbot with additional factual information. SNICKERS also explicitly advises users to fact-check the resulting answers.

The activation is currently designed specifically for ChatGPT. The campaign’s terms state that the provided code is intended to be copied and pasted into a user’s personal ChatGPT account.

Bringing an established brand idea into AI

The campaign builds on SNICKERS’ “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” platform, which the brand has used for more than a decade. The concept traditionally suggests that hunger can cause people to behave differently from their usual selves, with a SNICKERS bar presented as the solution.

With generative AI becoming increasingly common in everyday tasks, Mars has applied the same idea to chatbots.

“SNICKERS has long been the remedy for out-of-character moments,” Ashley Gill, vice president of brand and content at Mars Snacking, said in the company’s announcement. She added that the campaign aims to reinterpret the brand’s existing platform as generative AI becomes part of everyday life.

The campaign also includes a physical promotion. Eligible US participants aged 18 or older can potentially receive a free SNICKERS bar through DoorDash after engaging with the activation. The offer is limited to 3,000 products and runs until September 20, 2026, or until supplies run out, whichever comes first.

Hungr.AI illustrates an interesting use case where brands that are not directly involved with generative AI or even tech, for that matter, can use AI chatbots not only for internal processes but also as a cultural context for marketing.
