TBC Georgia has become the first bank in the country to introduce palm payment, a biometric technology that lets customers pay by scanning their palm.

The service allows customers to make purchases at participating merchants without a physical card, smartphone or cash. Once registered, a customer’s unique palm characteristics are linked to a chosen bank account.
At the point of sale, they simply scan their palm to complete the transaction. The technology is gaining traction internationally as banks and retailers look for faster and more convenient alternatives to traditional payment methods.
To activate the service, customers complete a one-time registration at a location equipped with a palm scanner. They then use TBC Georgia’s mobile banking app to scan a QR code and select the account they want to link. Thereafter, payments can be made at any participating partner location.
“At TBC, we have a long history of pioneering digital innovation in Georgia, from introducing the country’s first internet banking services in 2001 to continuously expanding the range of convenient payment solutions available to our customers,” said Sandro Rtveladze, Retail Business Director at TBC Georgia. “With the introduction of palm payment, we are taking another step towards making everyday financial transactions simpler, faster, and more seamless.”
He added that the bank’s ambition is to bring the latest global financial technologies to Georgia and turn them into practical solutions that improve the customer experience.
“Palm payment demonstrates how we continue to push the boundaries of digital banking and strengthen our position at the forefront of financial innovation in the region.”
The launch comes shortly after TBC Georgia announced a partnership with American Express to expand acceptance of American Express cards across the country, both in physical stores and online. In April 2026, the bank was named the Most Innovative Bank in Central and Eastern Europe by Global Finance, recognizing products such as instant retail and business onboarding and its internal AI assistant.
TBC Georgia is part of TBC Bank Group PLC, a London Stock Exchange-listed group and a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. The group serves 7.2 million monthly digitally active customers in Georgia and Uzbekistan.
In Georgia, it is one of the country’s leading digital-first banks, operating across retail, micro, small and medium enterprises, and corporate and investment banking. The group also operates TBC Uzbekistan, the leading digital financial ecosystem in Central Asia. Founded in Georgia in 1992, the group has grown from a local market leader into a regional financial player and has operated in Uzbekistan since 2020.
Palm payment is the latest addition to TBC’s efforts to expand payment choice and convenience for both individuals and businesses. The bank has positioned the technology as part of a broader push to accelerate the adoption of innovative financial tools in Georgia.
