Wero Payment Service Expands Pan-EU Availability Through Banking Circle

Wero, developed by the European Payments Initiative (EPI), enables users to send and receive money using a phone number or email, with transactions processed in real time. The service is designed to support peer-to-peer payments, online purchases, and in-store transactions, and it is being rolled out gradually across multiple European countries.

The integration with Banking Circle, a licensed European bank and payment infrastructure provider, allows businesses and fintechs connected to the platform to access Wero’s payment capabilities through Banking Circle’s APIs. This development joins earlier integrations with other financial institutions, broadening Wero’s availability within the European payment ecosystem.

Several major banks have already made Wero available to customers. In Germany, Deutsche Bank and Postbank provide Wero services alongside traditional accounts. ING supports Wero in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands, while N26 is rolling out the service to users in Germany, France, and the Netherlands. A number of Belgian banks, including Argenta, Beobank, Crelan, Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC, CBC, and others, have implemented Wero. Luxembourg banks such as Spuerkeess, BGL BNP Paribas, Banque Internationale à Luxembourg, POST Luxembourg, and Banque Raiffeisen are also preparing to launch Wero by mid-2026.

In addition to traditional banks, the system has been integrated into payment service providers and fintech platforms. Worldline supports merchants in accepting Wero for e-commerce transactions, and other payment solution providers are connecting to Wero’s infrastructure to offer services to their clients.

The service is currently live or rolling out in France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, with Luxembourg and additional markets expected to follow. Wero is backed by 16 major European banks, including BNP Paribas, BPCE, and Crédit Agricole, all supporting the unified payment network through the EPI.

With the latest integration at Banking Circle, even more users can access Wero payments via an expanding list of European banks and platforms, making real-time, account-to-account payments increasingly accessible to consumers and businesses across multiple countries.
