Castles Technology, a company that makes Android-based payment terminals, is deepening its investment in France as retailers, hotels, restaurants and self-service machine operators speed up their adoption of newer payment technology.

The announcement was made on 3 September, 2026, ahead of the company’s appearance at NRF Europe later this month.
For those less familiar with this industry, a brief explanation helps. Payment terminals are the devices customers use to tap, insert or scan a card (or phone) to pay in a shop, restaurant, or at an unattended machine like a vending unit or EV charger. Many of today’s terminals run on the Android operating system, the same type of software found on most smartphones, which makes it easier for businesses to add new features, apps and payment methods over time rather than being locked into rigid, single-purpose hardware. Castles Technology builds these Android-based terminals and works with banks, retailers, and payment service providers to get them installed and running.
The company’s French operations are based in Vélizy-Villacoublay, near Paris, which serves as a regional hub covering engineering, product development, sales and day-to-day operations. From there, the local team supports banks, merchants and technology partners across France and neighbouring markets. Alongside selling terminals, Castles Technology also offers CaSERV, a managed service that helps businesses keep their payment devices running smoothly, manage large numbers of terminals across multiple locations, and get local support when something goes wrong.
According to the company, three types of businesses are driving demand in France right now: retailers wanting more flexible payment setups, hospitality businesses investing in mobile and self-service ordering and payment, and operators of unattended equipment such as EV chargers, vending machines and transport ticketing systems, who need payment infrastructure that stays connected and reliable even during high-traffic periods.
Jean-Philippe Niedergang, CEO EMEA, Pacific and LATAM at Castles Technology, said: “France continues to lead the way in the adoption of modern payment technology across retail, hospitality and unattended environments. Businesses are no longer simply choosing payment terminals. They are investing in platforms and services that can evolve alongside their operations. Having an experienced local team, backed by engineering expertise and managed services through CaSERV, allows us to work much more closely with customers and partners, supporting them through that transition while continuing to invest in the French market for the long term.”
Castles Technology will showcase its latest Android payment products at NRF Europe, held at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles from 15-17 September, 2026. The company says it plans to highlight new developments for retail and unattended payment environments, and has indicated that further product announcements will follow during the event.
