Circle Internet Group has announced a new collaboration with Sasai Fintech, a business of Cassava Technologies, aimed at expanding access to USDC stablecoin and strengthening digital financial infrastructure in Africa. The partnership focuses on reducing transaction costs, improving settlement speeds, and enabling more efficient cross-border payments across key African markets.

The initiative will explore practical applications of USDC, a fully reserved and transparent U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin issued through Circle’s regulated affiliates. Designed to maintain a 1:1 redeemability with the U.S. dollar, USDC is widely used in programmable payments, decentralized finance, and global digital transactions.
Expanding Stablecoin Adoption in Africa
The collaboration comes at a time when stablecoin adoption in Africa is accelerating, driven by mobile-first users, growing digital commerce, and increasing demand for faster and more cost-effective cross-border payments.
Circle and Sasai Fintech aim to leverage these trends by integrating USDC into Sasai’s financial ecosystem, which already provides a broad suite of digital payment solutions, including mobile wallets, business payments, and remittance services.
Sasai Fintech operates across multiple payment corridors, enabling both consumer and enterprise transactions while supporting international money transfers. Through integration with Circle’s infrastructure, these services are expected to become more seamlessly connected to global financial systems.
Focus on Efficiency, Cost Reduction, and Settlement Speed
A key goal of the partnership is to improve financial efficiency by reducing friction in payments and settlement processes. By utilizing Circle’s full-stack platform and blockchain-based infrastructure, the companies plan to enable faster transactions and lower operational costs for both individuals and businesses.
The integration is expected to support a range of use cases, including:
- Cross-border remittances
- Enterprise payments
- Mobile wallet transactions
- Digital commerce in emerging markets
These applications align with broader industry trends toward onchain finance and internet-native payment systems, which aim to modernize traditional financial infrastructure.
Leadership Commentary on Financial Inclusion and Innovation
“Africa’s digital economy is entering a new era, propelled by entrepreneurship, a mobile-first generation, and the acceleration of intra-regional trade,” said Strive Masiyiwa, Founder and Executive Chairman at Cassava Technologies. “By integrating with the trusted and widely adopted USDC network, we can drive financial inclusion and open transformative opportunities for businesses and consumers alike.”
Circle also highlighted the strategic importance of emerging markets in the evolution of digital finance.
“Emerging markets are at the forefront of stablecoin adoption, and Africa represents a significant opportunity for internet-native innovation,” said Jeremy Allaire, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO at Circle. “Working with Cassava, we can extend the benefits of USDC and onchain infrastructure into high-growth payment corridors to deliver always-on global connectivity.”
Growing Role of Stablecoins in Global Payments
The partnership reflects a broader shift toward stablecoin-powered payments as financial institutions and technology companies seek alternatives to traditional banking systems, particularly in regions with limited access to financial services.
USDC, in particular, has gained traction as a widely used regulated stablecoin, offering transparency and stability while enabling near-instant, low-cost transactions across borders.
As digital economies continue to expand across Africa, collaborations like this one between Circle and Sasai Fintech highlight the growing role of blockchain-based financial infrastructure in supporting financial inclusion and global connectivity.
