ClearBank Leverages Stablecoin Momentum to Modernise Cross-Border Payments

By joining the Circle Payments Network (CPN), ClearBank will offer institutional and fintech clients access to Circle Mint for issuing and redeeming USDC and EURC stablecoin in Europe, enabling near-instant, transparent cross-border settlements.

ClearBank Leverages Stablecoin Momentum to Modernise Cross-Border Payments

ClearBank, the UK-based clearing bank, is expanding its role in digital finance by partnering with Circle Internet Group to enable faster, more transparent cross-border payments through stablecoin infrastructure.

The move aligns with a growing regulatory openness toward stablecoins and reflects ClearBank’s goal of combining the speed of digital assets with the reliability of traditional banking systems. As global regulatory clarity improves, stablecoins are increasingly being viewed not as speculative instruments but as efficient payment and settlement tools.

The collaboration connects ClearBank’s cloud-native clearing infrastructure with Circle’s blockchain-based network. Clients using ClearBank’s services will be able to move value globally via stablecoin rails, supported by ClearBank’s compliance framework and settlement processes. This hybrid approach blends blockchain efficiency with the regulatory and operational standards expected in the banking sector.

Within this environment, ClearBank’s focus is on speed and control rather than solely on cost efficiency. ClearBank emphasises that while stablecoin transactions can reduce some intermediary costs, its main objective is to improve transparency, reliability, and settlement speed for clients conducting international or high-volume payments. The model also allows users to retain familiar compliance and onboarding procedures while benefiting from blockchain-enabled transaction flows.

In Europe, Circle’s USDC and EURC stablecoins have been structured to comply with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, creating an opportunity for regulated financial institutions to adopt blockchain-based payment mechanisms safely.

The Circle Payments Network (CPN) integrates various financial and fintech institutions with Circle’s global blockchain payment network. Other CPN members include BCB Group in Europe, Alfred Pay in Latin America, Flutterwave and Yellow Card in Africa, and Tazapay across Asia-Pacific. Each participant contributes regional payment corridors and on/off-ramp capabilities, expanding the network’s global reach and liquidity.

The inclusion of partners from diverse regions highlights the CPN’s ambition to create a globally interoperable stablecoin infrastructure that supports real-time business and consumer transactions while maintaining compliance with local financial regulations. ClearBank’s entry adds regulated banking depth to the network’s European operations, complementing existing payment providers and fintech connectors.

Beyond payments, ClearBank and Circle plan to explore additional use cases such as stablecoin-based treasury operations, tokenised asset settlement, and programmable money applications. These developments align with the financial industry’s broader shift toward tokenisation and instant settlement models, where stablecoins act as a bridge between digital and traditional finance.
