Elon Musk’s company xAI presented a chatbot based on artificial intelligence called Grok.
The developers stated that this digital product was modeled on the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The company, advertising the chatbot, claims that in its system of digital thinking and paradigm of perception of the surrounding space in all dimensions, there are elements of wit and the so-called rebellious streak. The developers claim that Grok will be able to answer questions that are difficult from the point of view of the moral and ethical component and can be designated as provocative. Separately, Elon Musk’s company points out that similar digital products of other firms try to avoid conversations on similar topics. Whether these statements are a statement of a real fact or were made for purely marketing purposes, users will be able to find out based on their personal experience of interacting with a new chatbot.
Grok has access to data from the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter and currently owned by Elon Musk. According to the developers, this is the advantage of a chatbot. It is worth noting that in this case, the access of the artificial intelligence configuration to the confidential information of users of the mentioned social network is not implied.
Last Sunday, November 5, Elon Musk published a parallel comparison of the performance of Grok and another digital product of similar functional purpose. The AI configuration data answered the same question. According to Mr. Mask, a chatbot developed not by his company provides information from a less relevant database in terms of compliance with the current realities of the outside world. This statement may also turn out to be something like a publicity stunt, but it is an assumption that does not deny the probability of a high level of Grok’s awareness of what is happening in the space of people’s life and the Universe as a kind of all-encompassing matter on a scale accessible to the human mind.
At the same time, xAI does not immerse itself in what can be called something like excessive advertising, when the benefits of the product are overstated to the point of absurdity. The company noted that its chatbot, like any large language model, can generate responses to user requests containing false data. The developers also warned about the risk that Grok could provide consumers with an array of information, the semantic components of which contradict each other.
Currently, the chatbot exists in the form of a prototype that is in beta testing. The development is also available for review to a select number of users. Consumers can already sign up for the waiting to get the opportunity to interact with the chatbot as early as possible.
Elon Musk said that Grok will be an X Premium+ feature that costs $16 per month. The billionaire perceives his company xAI as a competitor to such OpenAI, Inflation, and Anthropic.
During the first round of testing, Grok surpassed all other machine intelligence models in its computing class, including ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflation-1. This was reported by the developers of the chatbot. This testing was based on high school math problems and Python coding.
Elon Musk, in his account in X, stated that from the point of view of some aspects, the chatbot developed by the specialists of his company is the best such technological offer of all that currently exists.
Grok is a term that was coined by Robert A. Heinlein in his 1961 science fiction novel Stranger in a Strange Land. In this literary work, the mentioned word has a Martian origin and does not have a direct terrestrial translation. Critics believe that this term implies a verbal expression of a state of deep empathy or intolerance to certain issues.
xAI’s activities began in July. The team of specialists of this company consists of former employees of OpenAI, DeepMind, and other firms. xAI is still hiring employees for several positions. The company has a more than ambitious and, in a sense, the most global goal, which is to promote a collective understanding of the Universe with the help of artificial intelligence.
