The media reported that Meta is currently working on creating a commercial version of its artificial intelligence tool.
Experts say that the implementation of this intention will allow the technology giant to increase its competitiveness as part of a kind of technological confrontation with Microsoft and Google in the area of development in the AI industry.
This year Meta released its large language model (LLM) artificial intelligence tool for academics and researchers. This digital product based on virtual intelligence, as reported by the media concerning sources aware of the company’s plans, which have not yet been made public, will soon become commercial. Another insider noted that the decision to introduce an artificial intelligence tool in the commercial category is inevitable.
The tech giant reports that its large language model is open source. According to experts, this means that detailed information about the digital product will soon be made public. In a certain sense, open source is a competitive advantage. For example, the configuration of artificial intelligence from OpenAI called GPT-4 refers to products, information about which is available only to developers. At the same time, data transparency increases the level of consumer awareness of the AI model and thereby automatically increases the degree of brand loyalty. Excessive secrecy, which, however, in some cases is justified, as a rule, negatively affects the perception of the company by potential customers.
Yann LeCun, Meta’s chief artificial intelligence specialist, says that in the coming months, the balance of power in terms of the position of industry players will change in the field of artificial intelligence. He believes that the situation will be changed by open-source AI models, which, according to him, are in no way inferior to open-source platforms in terms of efficiency and quality.
Currently, there is an acceleration of the activity of companies in the field of artificial intelligence. This week, the firm Anthropic, which is supported by Google, presented a new version of its chatbot called Claude.
Also this week, Elon Musk announced the launch of xAI. This firm will carry out activities in the sphere of artificial intelligence. According to Elon Musk, the main goal of the company is to understand the nature of the universe with the help of AI. The team of specialists of the new firm includes former employees of DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla, and the University of Toronto.
