OceanBase Announces Kuala Lumpur Support Center, Serves 4,000 Customers Globally

OceanBase, a Singaporean provider of unified distributed database systems for artificial intelligence, announced at its INFINITY 2026 conference in Kuala Lumpur that it is expanding its global operations. The company plans to establish a new global support center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, alongside its international headquarters in Singapore. The center will provide services such as solution architecture and technical support to customers in Southeast Asia and other regions.

Evan Yang, CEO of OceanBase, spoke at the INFINITY 2026 event:

“Fintech and banking institutions across Southeast Asia are facing a common set of operational pressures: elevated demands on system stability, growing compliance requirements, increasing pressure on cost efficiency and operational simplicity, and new demands as AI moves from pilot projects into production systems. OceanBase is here to support them. We are dedicated to providing a trusted foundation — stable, resilient, scalable, and always ready for whatever the next phase of fintech requires.”

The company said the new center is intended to support 24/7 customer service and business continuity. The move follows the launch of the “GO GLOBAL GO Program” in October 2025, which focuses on international development across products, services, sales, and marketing.

OceanBase reports that it currently serves more than 4,000 customers worldwide. In the financial technology sector, it supports over 100 fintech companies. These include more than 20 e-wallet providers, such as TNG Digital in Malaysia and GCash in the Philippines, as well as 50 payment service providers and 30 fintech firms. The company states that these customers have a combined user base of over 1.3 billion people. OceanBase also provides its services to more than 400 financial institutions, including banks, insurance companies, and wealth management firms. It says over 60% of these institutions use OceanBase for mission-critical systems.

OceanBase supports transactional, analytical, and AI workloads through a unified data engine. Originally, the engine was built and used internally by Ant Group to support large-scale financial systems, including payment infrastructure. After ten years of operations, Ant Group began making OceanBase available commercially to external customers. Finally, in 2022, the project span off as an independent company, while Ant Group remained a shareholder. The new business form enabled OceanBase to expand its customer base outside China to international clients, including those in Southeast Asia.

It also developed partnerships with major global cloud providers. OceanBase follows a multi-cloud approach. Its services are available on platforms including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and Alibaba Cloud. The company states that its cloud database service operates in more than 16 countries and regions, across over 60 cloud regions and 200 availability zones.

The company also reports involvement in open-source projects. It states that more than 500 contributors are engaged with initiatives such as Apache Flink CDC, AWS Glue, LangChain, LlamaIndex, and Dify.
