ChatGPT Health represents OpenAI latest push to formalise AI role in personal health and wellness scenarios.

OpenAI has officially introduced ChatGPT Health — a new health-focused experience within its ChatGPT platform designed to help users explore medical and wellness questions with enhanced data context and privacy protections. The new service marks a significant step in bringing generative AI deeper into personal health engagement.
ChatGPT Health is a distinct space within ChatGPT where users can allegedly securely connect their health information, including medical records and wellness app data, to receive more personalized insights and context-aware support. Unlike standard chat queries about health topics, this dedicated environment is engineered to handle sensitive information with enhanced privacy and security controls.
According to the AI company, health-related conversations are compartmentalised from regular chats and are encrypted and isolated, meaning that health data will be kept separate and not used to train OpenAI’s foundational models. Users also should retain control over this sensitive data set, with the ability to delete stored health memories or disconnect linked apps at any time.
AI has already become a widely used source for informal health advice: in fact, over 230 million users globally ask health and wellness questions on ChatGPT every week, according to OpenAI. ChatGPT Health builds on this demand by providing a dedicated space where replies can be more relevant to the individual’s actual health context, rather than generic information.
In some regions, like China, health-related AI services are becoming increasingly popular. In fact, there are whole AI doctor personalities trained there based on individual practitioners’ experiences and widely recommended, too, for routine health questions.
By connecting tools like Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Function, Weight Watchers, Peloton, and AllTrails, ChatGPT users can now receive health-linked support that reflects their own activity data, lab results, and clinical history, rather than generalized data. This allows the AI to help users understand test outcomes, spot trends over time, prepare for appointments, receive general diet and exercise guidance, and explore insurance options more confidently.
OpenAI worked with more than 260 physicians across 60 countries and specialties during development to ensure that the feature responds to health topics in ways that prioritise safety and clarity. However, the company clearly conveys the important message that ChatGPT Health is not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions. The feature is meant to be a tool that supports users in preparing for medical conversations and making sense of health data — not a substitute for medical professionals.
At launch, ChatGPT Health is rolling out to a limited group of users via waitlist, covering both free and paid subscribers (including ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans) in most regions, excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK. Broader access on web and iOS is expected to follow soon, with additional markets and integrations planned over time. Some features, such as direct medical record connections, are initially available only in the United States.
