OpenAI Reportedly Prepares Plan for Movement to AGI

The media reports that OpenAI has developed an action strategy, the ultimate goal of which is artificial general intelligence (AGI).

OpenAI Reportedly Prepares Plan for Movement to AGI

Journalists, referring to an anonymous interlocutor, being an employee of the mentioned company, claim that this week the management of the firm shared with subordinates a new five-level classification system. In this case, it actually means a system of parameters for estimating progress towards elaborating AGI.

The media also reported that the company’s management intends to provide a classification system to investors and others outside the firm in the future. It has not yet been announced exactly when this intention will be implemented.

The media reports that currently, in the context of the perception of its achievements on the way to developing more powerful artificial intelligence, the company characterizes its positions as corresponding to Level 1 of the specified classification system. In this case, it means an AI configuration that is able to interact with people in conversation mode.

The company is also convinced that the development of its technologies is already approaching Level 2. In this case, it means such a configuration of artificial intelligence, which, in terms of cognitive abilities, demonstrates the same abilities as a person with a doctorate-level education.

The company defines Level 3 as a stage in the development of machine intelligence, within which advanced technology can act on behalf of the user for several days. The exact timing of independent cognitive functionality has not yet been specified.

Level 4 provides for a configuration of artificial intelligence capable of developing innovations. To some extent, this form of functionality may hint at the ability of AI to evolve independently, the implementation process of which does not depend on outside impact.

Level 5, which is the maximum, provides for the emergence of artificial intelligence systems capable of performing the work of the organization.

It is worth noting that the classification system is not yet final and may be changed. At the same time, in this case, there is a preliminary understanding of which concept of action the company will move towards AGI. In October, OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman and Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati announced that, in their opinion, the mentioned configuration of artificial intelligence will become a reality in the next ten years. The functionality of the AGI is likely to correspond to the upper levels of the specified classification system.

As we have reported earlier, OpenAI Partners With Los Alamos National Laboratory.
