Qualcomm Technologies Inc. announced the Snapdragon X Platform, the fourth platform in its portfolio of Snapdragon X computing systems designed to deliver performance, multi-day battery life, and Copilot+PC experiences for even more users worldwide.
The mentioned company, based in San Diego, California, said that in this case, it is redefining the personal computers category for mainstream devices at $600.
Snapdragon X, using the power of the 8-core Qualcomm OryonTM central processing unit, delivers essential performance for next-generation personal computers. The company stated that this platform delivers up to 163% faster performance at ISO-power than its competitors, which also require 168% more power at ISO-performance.
Qualcomm also released information according to which the Snapdragon X processor balances performance and built-in intelligence with a 45 TOPS NPU that runs the Copilot+ PC experience more efficiently. The integrated power-efficient graphics processing unit provides support for dynamic graphics, which is ideal for creating presentations, web browsing, or streaming content.
The company said the Snapdragon X is the perfect solution for students, freelancers, and budget-conscious consumers who need a reliable and powerful laptop capable of keeping up with their busy lives.
According to information published by Qualcomm, devices powered by Snapdragon X are expected to be available from Acer, Asus, Dell Technologies, HP, Lenovo, and others in the near future enabling Copilot+PCs in the $600 range.
Chief executive officer Cristiano Amon is currently pushing the company into the personal computer market as part of his plan to lessen the brand’s reliance on smartphone chips. It is worth noting that Qualcomm has been taking a dominant position in the high-end handsets segment of the smartphone market for a long period of time.
The company has broad support from personal computer manufacturers and Microsoft. Also, Qualcomm devices, which entered the market last year, garnered positive feedback from consumers and experts. At the same time, the company has so far failed to achieve a level of competitiveness that would mean a decrease in the market share of personal computer chip manufacturers such as Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Inc.
It’s worth noting that the Snapdragon X complements Qualcomm’s range of more powerful and expensive components, including the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus.
Alex Katouzian, group general manager, mobile, compute, and XR (MCX), Qualcomm, stated that the Snapdragon X Series portfolio offers the most powerful, intelligent, and power-efficient Windows processors in its class. It was also noted separately that the company’s partner ecosystem continues to build on Snapdragon to deliver innovative form factors and premium artificial intelligence experiences.
Pavan Davuluri, corporate vice president, windows + devices, Microsoft, stated that the introduction of Snapdragon X reinforces a wave of innovation in the personal computer area and enables bringing the latest technologies to a wider range of Copilot+PCs.
