Lucena has extensive experience (10+ years) in the payments arena, having previously worked at Worldpay, PayU, Rapyd, and Thunes, where he developed payment corridors and led enterprise sales, as well as established partnerships with banks, and fintech companies in Latin America.

According to TransFi, this appointment is part of the company’s strategy for regional expansion focusing on cross-border payments enabled by stablecoins. TransFi’s estimation of the size of the market for cross-border payments in Latin America is approximately $34.6B in revenue in 2024, growing to $52.7B by 2030.

Besides, LatAm has a huge $760B worth e-commerce market where stablecoins can be leveraged once they gain more real-world utility. In these circumstances, alternative payment methods such as cash, e-wallets and bank transfers comprise 48% of the payments landscape. Crypto use is also on the rise in the region. In 2022-2025, Latin America recorded nearly $1.5 trillion in cryptocurrency transaction volume.

“Latin America is entering a new phase of financial innovation. The demand for faster, more transparent and more efficient cross-border payment solutions has never been higher,” Lucena said. “I strongly believe TransFi’s product suite is uniquely positioned to solve real market pain points, especially as stablecoin adoption accelerates globally.”

Raj Kamal, co-founder of TransFi, explained that the company is currently focused on building local partnerships and infrastructure across LatAm region. In fact, in the countries in question, transaction approval rate is significantly higher when local cards are used for online purchases.

Founded in 2022, TransFi provides cross-border payment infrastructure to banks, PSPs, and fintech companies. TransFi claims to operate in 100+ countries, supporting 250+ local payment methods; 40+ currencies; and 100+ digital assets.

In March 2026, TransFi announced the completion of a $19.2M financing round that consisted of $14.2M of Series A equity and $5M in liquidity led by Turing Financial Group. The startup ambitiously hopes to achieve ~$5B in processed transaction volume in FY2026.
