Visa is ready to acquire Argentina’s Prisma Medios de Pago and Newpay from Advent International, expanding digital payments, real-time processing, and fintech solutions in LATAM.

Visa Inc. has announced that it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire two of Argentina’s leading payment infrastructure providers, Prisma Medios de Pago S.A.U. and Newpay S.A.U., from private equity firm Advent International. The deal is expected to close in Visa’s fiscal second quarter of 2026, pending customary regulatory approvals.
The acquisition is part of Visa’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Latin America’s digital payments ecosystem, a market experiencing rapid growth in real-time payments, mobile transactions, and digital financial services. By gaining control of local processing infrastructure, Visa aims to enhance speed, security, and flexibility for financial institutions, merchants, and consumers across Argentina.
Prisma Medios de Pago is one of Argentina’s largest issuer processors, handling credit, debit, and prepaid card operations while providing backend services to banks and fintechs. Newpay operates critical infrastructure including the Banelco ATM network, real-time payment solutions, and the PagoMisCuentas bill payment platform. Together, these platforms process millions of transactions each year, giving Visa a direct line into Argentina’s payment rails and digital banking ecosystem. Notably, Payway S.A.U., the merchant acquiring arm previously part of the same group, will remain independent under Advent International, focusing on merchant solutions.
Visa plans to integrate Prisma and Newpay’s technology with its global network, enabling: tokenization and biometric authentication for safer transactions, intelligent risk management tools for fraud prevention, and enhanced support for agentic commerce and fintech innovation.
By combining local processing expertise with Visa’s global payments infrastructure, the company seeks to accelerate adoption of secure digital payment solutions and expand access to financial services across the region.
The upcoming Visa’s acquisitions follow a string of regional investments, including prior purchases like Pismo in Brazil, positioning the company to compete with global and local players in real-time, cross-border, and mobile payments. The deal is also expected to stimulate fintech innovation in Argentina itself, as local startups and banks gain access to Visa’s advanced technology and global expertise.
