The need to implement this feature has been repeatedly stated by those who use WhatsApp. The launch of a tool that allows you to make adjustments to sent text materials, the messaging platform, which is owned by the technology giant Meta, was announced on Tuesday, May 23.

The action of the editing function will be limited in time. Users will be able to make changes to the message only within the first 15 minutes after sending it. The interlocutors of those who edited the text will see a note about making changes in the chat. At the same time, the editing history will not be available to users who receive the corresponding messages.

WhatsApp’s statement on the occasion of the launch of the new feature draws attention to the fact that the expansion of chat control capabilities allows not only to correct spelling errors but also to add a new context to the message.

The new messenger tool is similar to the solution added to
Apple’s iMessage last fall. The Cupertino company allows its users to make edits to a message five times within 15 minutes after sending it. The video posted by WhatsApp on Twitter indicates that in this case, the editing function will have a single action. This means that can make edits only once.

WhatsApp users must long-push on the message to access the editing function. The new tool, implemented in the messenger’s functional system, will be available in all countries of the world. In the coming weeks, more than 2 billion users of this platform will have access to make adjustments to messages.

In recent years, WhatsApp has been focused on expanding functionality. In this case, the company focused on increasing the level of user privacy. Also, over the past few years, the implementation of active implementation of commercial functions in the messenger has been carried out. New solutions are offered to both ordinary users and companies that use the application for business purposes.

The expansion of the system’s functionality and the introduction of commercial opportunities allow the company to compete more effectively with other players in the social media market, including, for example, Signal.

Last August, WhatsApp launched a hidden message verification feature. In this case, users can check their chats without informing their interlocutors that they are online.
