ZEN.COM has expanded its payment services in Europe, allowing customers to pay directly from their bank accounts through Mastercard Open Finance.

The service has been live since September 2026 in Germany, Austria, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Ireland and Lithuania. It supports payments at merchant checkouts as well as direct top-ups of ZEN.COM digital wallets.
Instead of setting up separate connections in each country, ZEN.COM can now offer Pay by Bank across all nine markets through one integration. Customers can pay straight from their bank accounts, and merchants get another way to accept payments alongside cards.
“Pay by Bank is becoming one of the fastest-growing ways to pay in Europe, and with Mastercard Open Finance we brought it live across nine markets through a single integration. It gives our merchants and customers a direct, secure way to move money straight from their bank account, alongside the cards and other payment methods they already use,” said Łukasz Neska, Chief Growth Officer at ZEN.COM.
The integration serves two purposes. For online merchants, it adds bank payments to the checkout process through ZEN.COM’s existing payment services. For consumers, it offers a way to add money to their digital wallets directly from a bank account. This gives customers an alternative to card-funded payments while allowing merchants to offer more choice at checkout.
The partnership also builds on ZEN.COM’s work with Mastercard in other areas of payments. In June 2026, the company announced the integration of Mastercard Click to Pay, which allows customers to make online card payments without entering their card details at every checkout.
For Mastercard, the latest rollout is part of its broader effort to expand Open Finance services across Europe. The company is working with banks, fintechs and merchants to make bank-connected payment options easier to introduce across different markets.
“The future of payments continues to be about removing complexity. Businesses want to focus on serving customers and growing across markets, not managing multiple integrations and payment infrastructures. Through our partnership with ZEN.COM, we’re helping make pay-by-bank easier to deploy, easier to scale, and easier for consumers to use across a wide range of European markets. The strong momentum we’re already seeing demonstrates how Open Finance is moving from promise to commercial reality,” said Valerie Nowak, EVP, Head of Open Finance, Mastercard APEMEA.
Pay by Bank is being positioned as an addition to existing payment methods rather than a replacement for cards. For businesses operating across several countries, a single integration can simplify the technical work involved in offering bank payments in multiple markets. Both companies say they plan to continue expanding access to the service across Europe.
