Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and UnionPay International have partnered to launch Huawei Pay in Malaysia.

In fact, the cashless service will be provided via NFC-supported Huawei devices. To use the service, users do not need to unlock a phone first, connecting to the internet, or turning on the application. That’s because fingerprint authentication will be the only needed tool.

To enable Huawei Pay on their devices, users can connect CBC UnionPay Credit Cards to the Huawei Wallet app. They can then tap their Huawei devices to a nearby supported payment unit.

Until now, Huawei Pay has been implemented in Macau, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Singapore.

We’ve reported that Uber partnered with Marqeta to provide payments infrastructure and global cards.

Huawei Pay utilizes advanced security protocols and the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to ensure secure transactions. This technology creates a unique communication channel between the payment terminal and the device, minimizing the risk of intercepting sensitive payment details.

Additionally, UnionPay provides worldwide acceptance, ensuring that Huawei Pay can be used not only in Malaysia but also globally wherever UnionPay is accepted. This makes it an excellent option for travelers who wish to make cashless transactions abroad without the hassle of currency exchange.

The introduction of services like Huawei Pay reflects a growing trend in Malaysia towards digital transformation and a cashless society. The Malaysian government has been actively encouraging digital payments through various initiatives and regulations aimed at fostering a more inclusive digital economy.
