OpenAI Creates Oversight Team

The mentioned functional component in the activity system of the specified firm system will be headed by senior executives. It is worth noting that in the middle of the current month, the previous oversight board of OpenAI was dissolved.

In a statement released by the company on Tuesday, it is noted that the new committee will be responsible for recommendations to the board of directors. The relevant recommendations will relate to the most important security solutions for OpenAI projects and operations.

The news about the creation of the committee appeared in the information space after the company announced the start of work on training its next-generation artificial intelligence model. In a post published on the OpenAI blog, it is noted that the firm expects the resulting systems to bring its new level of capabilities towards artificial general intelligence. In this case, it means a type of machine intelligence that, from the point of view of the level of thinking, either corresponds to the mental development of a person or surpasses it.

The new committee will include OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and other members of the company’s board of directors, including Bret Taylor, Adam D’Angelo, and Nicole Seligman. The relevant information is contained in a message posted on the firm’s blog.

The process of forming a new committee began after the decision was made to disband the previous OpenAI team, which specialized in long-term risks associated with artificial intelligence. Against the background of this decision, Ilya Sutskever and Jan Leike announced their departure from the firm.

Jan Leike said this month that OpenAI’s safety culture and processes have taken a backseat to shiny products. Sam Altan, in turn, said that he was sad about the decision of the mentioned specialist to leave the company.

Over the next 90 days, the new committee will evaluate OpenAI’s processes and safeguards, after which it will provide the company’s board with its recommendations regarding the mentioned aspects of its activities.

As we have reported earlier, OpenAI Launches GPT-4o.
