Stripe and BigCommerce Expand Global Commerce Partnership

E-commerce merchants using BigCommerce platform can now unlock globally optimized checkout, local payment options, AI-powered fraud protection and agentic commerce tools through an expanded Stripe integration.

Stripe and BigCommerce Expand Global Commerce Partnership

BigCommerce online sales platform, now part of the Commerce open-commerce ecosystem (Nasdaq: CMRC), and Stripe, the global programmable financial infrastructure company, have expanded their long-standing partnership to deliver a suite of advanced payment and checkout capabilities to merchants around the world.

Commerce, the parent company of BigCommerce, serves over 40 thousands of active online merchants across more than 150 countries. It has partnered with Stripe for over a decade, having announced a direct integration with Stripe’s payment platform back in 2013. Under its rebrand from BigCommerce to Commerce, the company aims to provide a broader, AI-ready commerce ecosystem that connects payments, data and channels for modern brands.

The newly expanded partnership centers on enabling BigCommerce merchants worldwide to access Stripe’s Optimized Checkout Suite, a collection of tools designed to modernize checkout experiences and accelerate sales growth. This global rollout extends capabilities beyond previous regional limitations, ensuring sellers in the Americas, EMEA and APAC regions can equally benefit from the same high-performance infrastructure.

Before the universal rollout, the existing integration primarily focused on North America and select European markets. Certain countries in Asia-Pacific had partial Stripe support as well, but full checkout and local payment method functionality was limited.

Among the key enhancements now available through the integrated platform there are:

  • Faster, more seamless checkout via Stripe’s Link technology that enables returning customers to check out up to three times faster by using their saved payment details.

  • Merchants can offer more than 30 global, local and Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) options that dynamically appear based on shopper location, reducing cart abandonment and driving conversion.

  • AI-driven fraud protection: Stripe Radar applies machine-learning models to merchant traffic, helping reduce fraud by an average of 38%.

  • A single dashboard, which supports payments, tax, fraud prevention and payouts, simplifying workflows for merchants.

In addition to these core improvements, BigCommerce merchants also gain access to Stripe’s Agentic Commerce Suite, which lets products become discoverable and purchasable through AI shopping agents via one configurable integration — a feature built to accelerate the adoption of AI-driven commerce.

Earlier, Stripe and OpenAI joined efforts to launch an instant checkout feature in ChatGPT, powered by the newly developed Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), which allows U.S.-based ChatGPT users to purchase products directly from within the chat interface, streamlining the shopping experience.
