Worldline Showcases New AI Capabilities to Power Agentic Commerce

Worldline, a European payment services provider, has introduced new capabilities designed to enable AI agents to interact with its global payment infrastructure. The additions aim to make payment systems compatible with agent-based workflows and allow merchants to test AI-supported commerce use cases.

The development comes as agent-assisted commerce gains traction across digital channels, influencing how consumers search for products, make decisions, and complete purchases. Industry estimates suggest that agent-enabled transactions could account for a material share of global digital commerce over the coming years. According to McKinsey, agentic commerce could represent between $3 trillion and $5 trillion in global retail value by 2030. One of the key challenges in this area remains the secure and scalable integration of AI systems with payment platforms.

To address this, Worldline has deployed Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers on its Global Collect platform. These servers act as an intermediary layer between large language models and Worldline’s payment APIs, enabling AI agents to initiate payment-related actions through natural language commands. Supported functions include payment creation, capture, refunds, and transaction status checks. The setup also allows AI agents to generate and share secure payment links while preserving existing security and compliance controls.

In parallel, Worldline has launched ConnectAI, a dedicated section within its developer documentation environment. The hub provides tools, technical documentation, and implementation guidance intended to support merchants and developers experimenting with agent-based payment flows and emerging agentic commerce protocols.

Worldline’s management said the initiative is intended to support the transition from experimentation to production use cases by providing structured and secure access to payment capabilities for AI-driven systems. The company positioned the MCP servers as a foundational component for enabling agent-initiated transactions at scale, while also supporting internal operational efficiencies.

The company is also working with payment networks, technology providers, AI platforms, and industry partners to support the broader development of agentic commerce. This includes participation in early standards such as Google’s Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) and the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), with an emphasis on alignment with European regulatory and trust requirements.
