Crypto Compliance Boost in Action: TRM Labs New Partnership Promises Audit-Ready Monitoring as MiCA Pressure Mounts

In a newly announced partnership, TRM Labs and Finray Technologies are aiming to close one of the biggest compliance gaps facing financial institutions that deal with digital assets today: audit-ready crypto monitoring embedded directly into banking and payments workflows.

The collaboration integrates TRM’s blockchain intelligence capabilities into Finray’s compliance and decisioning infrastructure, enabling institutions to monitor crypto and fiat transactions within a single system and create regulator-ready documentation right away.

The TRM-Finray integration is designed to produce structured audit trails automatically. This includes real-time alert triage, risk scoring documentation, case management logs, and escalation histories. In practical terms, that means enterprise compliance teams can generate MiCA compliant reports without reconstructing decisions manually months later.

Historically, many crypto compliance tools focused on wallet risk scores and transaction flagging. But regulators increasingly expect more, especially since the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) has raised the bar for how virtual asset service providers (VASPs), fintech firms, and banks should manage crypto-related risks.

Under MiCA, firms operating in or serving the European market must demonstrate robust governance, risk monitoring, and anti-money laundering controls comparable to those applicable for years in traditional finance. For B2B fintech providers, especially those offering crypto payment rails, embedded finance solutions, or digital asset custody, the enforcement of the new regulatory regime matters significantly. Many of them operate as infrastructure partners to banks or enterprise clients. If their monitoring systems cannot withstand regulatory audits, their partners’ licenses and reputations are at risk by association.

Furthermore, cross-border service providers must manage exposure across multiple jurisdictions, which often creates operational blind spots due to fragmented monitoring solutions where fiat transactions sit in one AML system and crypto data in another. Unified analytics platform, on the other hand, helps firms detect suspicious patterns that span both traditional and blockchain-based transactions.

Thus, by embedding blockchain intelligence directly into compliance decision engines, the TRM-Finray partnership aims to eliminate this fragmentation. Their client institutions can now evaluate customer risk holistically, instead of treating crypto as a separate silo.

Another key component of the unified compliance monitoring is continuous risk reassessment in real-time. The single audit-ready system rescores risk dynamically and logs those changes automatically. This demonstrates proactive monitoring — a growing expectation among European regulators.

At the same time, the partnering organizations note that integrating technology alone doesn’t ensure regulatory compliance. The integration only supports institutions in implementing proper monitoring programmes aligned with MiCA requirements and broader AML/CFT obligations. However, their customer institutions remain responsible for their overall compliance frameworks.

The integration is now available to institutions operating across EMEA and other jurisdictions where TRM services are available. Institutions with an existing TRM API key can activate the integration within Finray’s XZiel platform in a few days.
