J.P. Morgan Reserve Card
JPMorgan Chase introduced their Palladium Card in 2009. This card was developed in order to meet the needs of very special clients. Bloomberg claims the Reserve Card is the «card for the 1% of the 1%». Most J.P. Morgan clients who carry this card have no less than $10M in assets under J.P. Morgan’s management, and an invitation is extended at the bank’s discretion even when that threshold is met. The J.P. Morgan Reserve Card was one of the first US credit cards to use the EMV (smart chip technology). The card is made of brass with palladium plating, so its weight (28 grams) exceeds five times that of an ordinary plastic card. The annual fee now stands at $795, up from the $595 charged when the card launched as the Palladium Card and the later $450 rate under the Reserve name. Authorized users cost an additional $195 each. There are fee-free international transactions, returned payments, and late payments, while the card has no pre-set spending limit.
Coutts World Silk Card
Carrying the «Silk» card requires an existing relationship with Coutts, the UK private bank, along with at least £3 million in investments, savings or borrowings held with the firm. There is no separate application: Coutts extends the card to qualifying clients as part of its standard banking relationship. There is also no annual fee. As a bonus, a cardholder will gain access to VIP lounges, travel benefits, expert help 24/7, a rewards programme with exclusive gifts and much more. Historically the card has counted British royalty among its holders, and it remains one of the most sought-after private-bank cards in the UK.
Dubai First Royale Mastercard
This premium card is literally precious. It has a gold border, and there is a diamond embedded in the front side of the card. To have this card, you must be resident in the UAE, and it is available by invitation only. Coverage still puts the number of cardholders at around 200, including members of the Dubai and Saudi royal families. What about special bonuses? There is no pre-set spending limit, best-in-class service, and expert help 24/7. Dubai First has never disclosed an official annual fee; reports describe an undisclosed charge believed to run into the thousands of dollars a year, arranged privately with each cardholder alongside a dedicated relationship manager.
American Express Black Card Centurion
The issuance of this card now costs $10,000, and the annual fee has climbed to $5,000, up from the $2,500 it stood at for years. A cardholder is typically expected to spend somewhere in the region of $250,000-$350,000 annually across Amex accounts to be considered for an invitation. A holder of the American Express Black Card Centurion gets all of the American Express Platinum features (personal service, airport lounges etc) with much better car rentals, hotels, and flight upgrades. Cardholder numbers are not officially disclosed, but industry estimates now put the total in the tens of thousands worldwide, a far smaller club than in the card’s earlier years.
Stratus Rewards Visa
Mostly, black is the prevailing colour if we are talking about premium cards. However, there is a Stratus Rewards Visa exclusive card that will please those who prefer white. A prospective cardholder must be personally invited to apply for this card and also needs to be wealthy. The card carries an annual fee of $1,500. Stratus Rewards Visa cardholders receive reward points, which they can use for private jets, luxury hotel bookings, and a personal concierge expert help 24/7 (for anything from booking a flight to picking up dry cleaning). The card remains one of the least documented on this list, with very little public information available about its current operations.
Citigroup Black Chairman Card
You may carry this card only if you have significant investments and hold a Citigroup brokerage account. The annual fee remains $500, while the credit limit is up to $300,000. The perks of the Citigroup Black Chairman Card are quite impressive – 24/7 concierge service, access to private airport lounges, travel upgrades and more.
City National Crystal Visa Infinite Card
Rounding out the list is the Crystal Visa Infinite, issued by City National Bank to its private banking clients. It is not an open application: a dedicated relationship manager sets up the account for qualifying private-banking clients. The annual fee is $400, with a $95 fee for each additional card issued. Cardholders get Visa Infinite concierge services, the Luxury Hotel Collection, and the broader suite of Visa Signature perks alongside their private banking relationship.
Mastercard Black Card
The Mastercard Black premium card, now issued by Barclays under license, is made of stainless steel (front) with a carbon back. The annual fee has risen to $699, with a $249 charge per authorized user. Cardholders get benefits such as Luxury Card Concierge, up to $200 in annual airline credits, up to $100 in annual dining credits, a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credit, Priority Pass Select lounge access, and privileged access to exclusive events.
Citi Prestige Card
The Citi Prestige Card was built for the avid traveller, offering points for every dollar spent, an annual travel credit, a free 4th night at hotels booked through the Citi Prestige Concierge or ThankYou.com, and no foreign transaction fees. Citi closed the card to new applicants in the US back in 2021, and existing cardholders have since seen a string of benefit reductions; a formal replacement has yet to materialize. The card lives on for select markets. It is still issued in Singapore, for instance, though at a substantially higher income threshold and with a trimmed set of perks compared with its original US version. The annual fee has held at $450.
